FAQs
Question: I studied Japanese before, but I stopped at verbs. These concepts, in particular, are making me dizzy: u-verbs, i-verbs, e-verbs, k-irregular verbs, and s-irregular verbs.
Should I buy a book specifically on Japanese verb grammar?
Answer: You don't need to buy a special verb grammar book.
Regarding verbs, the following two tips will be very helpful in your future studies:
1. Many textbooks skip the dictionary form and directly use the "masu form" to learn verbs. However, please make sure to memorize the dictionary form of the verb from the beginning. Also, be sure to memorize the verb group. This will be very useful when learning other sentence patterns in the future.
2. Many textbooks on the market categorize verbs into five-part conjugation, u-verbs, i-verbs, e-verbs, k-irregular verbs, and s-irregular verbs. This is a grammatical concept in Japanese grammar. For international students, it is sufficient to know that verbs are divided into three groups and how to categorize them.
